Rome Private Tours

6:00 pm

Rome is an exceptionally attractive city at any time, be it day or the sun starts to set on an evening the atmosphere changes.

In the Eternal City, once locals leave their workplaces, the cafes and restaurants become animated with happy, vivacious chatty faces. The Italian attitude to drinking in public is very elegant and not what you might expect. Overdrinking is exceptionally rare and there is a much more relaxed feeling in the town and city center. Although every cafe will serve alcohol the same way a bar or pub does, you will never see abuse. This, in turn, makes Italian towns and cities very safe even late at night. Another great thing in evening time Rome is the light. Rome has around 300 days of sun so most evenings you will see the sandstone coloured buildings turn gold with the sunset. Monuments, fountains as well as buildings are illuminated beautifully. Together, these elements create the perfect setting for a gentle walk around the center of the greatest city in Europe.

For two hours, you will have the company of your personal private guide, who will regale you with stories and humorous anecdotes of Rome, its history and importantly its people. The people of Rome make the city what it is. There is an enduring feeling of the love of life.

Starting at the Spanish Steps, we will be in a large and very busy piazza. From here, you will see your first Bernini creation, the sculpture in the middle of the piazza, from its side you can depart and ascend the steps to pray at the Church atop them. In the other direction, you can walk down Via Condotti stopping to buy at every shop. Via Condotti is Rome’s most fashionable and most expensive shopping street. Containing names such as Prada, Armani, Louis Vuitton and Gucci. The Trevi Fountain is, of course, a must see. The world’s most stunning fountain never fails to leave people slightly speechless upon first seeing and it remains one of the most beautiful must-see elements of the Eternal City. Strangely, its designer was not the first choice. There had been a competition for its design and the chosen winner was Alessandro Galilei, a Florentine. Due to this, an uproar was to follow in Rome so the commission was awarded to the second placed contestant Nicola Salvi, a Roman! A good choice it seems. We will stroll through Piazza Colonna, where the mighty marble column of Marcus Aurelius can be found and Piazza di Monte Citorio (Parliament Square), the seat of Italian democracy today. Piazza Pietra, where you will witness the Temple of Hadrian. As your tour advances, you will soon become aware that nowhere in the world is there so much in such a small area. There is really no distance between these places. We also  have The Pantheon. Originally a pagan Temple, dating back to pre Colosseum days. It is the oldest fully functional Catholic Church in the world as it was consecrated 1700 years ago and surprisingly is in incredibly good condition. It is also the burial place of various Italian notables, which your guide will tell you more about. Piazza Navona: the largest and most attractive of Rome’s countless Piazzas. A baroque beauty boasting three fountains, the center being Bernini’s magical Four Rivers Fountain. Recently renovated and cleaned, it is as memorable as the Trevi. You will be in Baroque country, an amazing time when much of the center was transformed to the Rome you see today. You will see the influence of the Genius Bernini all around.

On this evening, you will have a  focused glimpse of what Rome has to offer and why people come back again and again. If you have romance in your heart and the love of beauty in your soul, you will surely return. Remember to throw your coin in the Trevi Fountain, as the legend goes doing so ensures your return to magical Rome. This will be two of the fastest hours of your vacation but do not despair. As the tour comes to an end, you can now sit back and take in the atmosphere of an evening in central Rome. You will be surrounded by Gelaterias, fine restaurants and cafe/bars. The night is still young so enjoy it fully!

This tour can be arranged for friends or couples but also for families with kids and you will have one the best child-friendly guide ever!
